YOUR HORSE IS AN INDIVIDUAL,

SO SHOULD BE YOUR PARASITE CONTROL

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q:  I use rotational deworming every 6-8 weeks.  Do I need to have my manure analyzed?

A:  Yes, research has shown that parasite resistance is occurring within horses who are on a rotational deworming schedule.

Q:  How often do I need to have a fecal egg count for my horse?

A:  Three to five times a year depending on the small strongyle count.

Q:  Do you do a fecal float or do you quantify the number of small strongyles?

A:  We use a special slide to quantify the number of small strongyles and provide a game-plan for effective deworming.

Q:  Will it be more expensive to test my manure 3-5 times a year than to just continue rotational deworming?

A:  A recent study at North Carolina State indicates that over a 30 month period of time, deworming costs are reduced in a herd of mares.

Q:  How do I Gain Optimal Control Over Parasites?

A:  Pasture hygiene, composting manure appropriately, cross grazing with cattle, collection of manure twice weekly, fecal egg counts for precision deworming.

What is the Process?

1.  Collect a fresh sample of manure (less than 6 hours) in a sealable bag, close completely, fill out the submission sticker, and paste it onto the sealable bag.

2. Submit the sample to one of our collection refrigerators.

3. A report with a small strongyle number will be emailed to you upon receipt of a check or credit card at our website.

Our philosophy dictates that there is always a way to improve from the status quo whether it be strategic deworming or preparing to ride for competition.   We want you to become a more knowledgable horseperson and have a healthier horse partner.

Parasite control is no longer giving a different deworming product every 6-8 weeks.     Ultimate Wellness includes fecal egg counts (FEC) throughout the entire year.  A FEC counts the number of small strongyles which guides us to an appropriate deworming strategy.  Research has shown that parasite resistance, especially small strongyles, is becoming evermore present and veterinary parasitologists are endorsing fecal egg counts as the gold standard.  We are a professional laboratory service dedicated to analyzing your horse’s manure.
